Season 5 Podcasts coming

On the Dissecting Dexter podcast, with the exception of one special Season 5 preview, we've been exclusively rewatching Season 1 and enjoying those early episodes all over again.

Season 5 is of course about to start airing on US tv and I could hardly pass up an opportunity to podcast about a season as it airs. So...the season 1 rewatch is most likely going on semi-hiatus for the duration of season 5. I may have time to get the odd podcast done, but I can't promise. My priority over the next 12 weeks will be a podcast reacting to each episode of season 5.

For those of you who've not seen all the seasons of Dexter and don't want to know anything about season 5, avoid spoilers etc, please be assured that all podcasts about season 5 will be clearly labelled in iTunes and clearly identified in the podcasts themselves. The season 1 shows will continue to be completely spoiler free but the season 5 ones will be in the same iTunes feed so please take care with which shows you listen to.

Anyone keen to dive into season 5 - most of us I imagine! - I'll be recording a podcast 3 or 4 days after the episodes air in the US and I would welcome any and all feedback, theories, predictions, comments etc either by email (dissectingdexter@gmail.com) or drop me a voicemail on our listener lines:

US: 206-350-6166
UK: 0844 579 6949, and enter mailbox ID 08320

I'll be happy to play your comments on the podcast.

I can't wait to get stuck into season 5. It's going to be epic! Join me on Dissecting Dexter and we'll enjoy it together.

The Dissecting Dexter podcast now has two listener lines for you to leave voicemail feedback.

For US listeners: 206-350-6166 (note this is different from the original one I published. The numbers are terminated if not used for 30 days!)

There is also a UK-based number: 0844 579 6949, enter mailbox number 08320

The next Dissecting Dexter episode looks at Season 1 Episode 6 "Return To Sender". Put your thought on this episode, or the last one "Love American Style", in a voicemail and I'll play it in the show. Thanks!

Dissecting Dexter Podcast Episode 105

In this episode we dissect Dexter Season 1 Episode 5 "Love American Style" in which the Miami Metro PD get a nice break in the Ice Truck Killer case and Dexter shows questionable taste in light-hearted films. As always, we recap the episode with commentary and clips along the way. There is also some great listener feedback.

Do you have any feedback on this episode or the next one we'll look at "Return to Sender"? Send them to dissectingdexter@gmail.com or use the comments box on the blog homepage.

Dexter at Comic-Con 2010

The Dexter panel at this year's San Diego Comic Con is on Thursday 22nd July at 6pm local time. The Comic Con website lists it thus:

"6:00-7:00 Showtime's Dexter— What's next for America's Favorite Serial Killer? If the dramatic season finale left you in an, OMG-what-just-happened frenzy, you don't want to miss this killer panel! You'll see the exclusive world premiere of the new season's trailer, then moderator Ralph Garman (KROQ entertainment reporter) presides over a revealing interview and Q&A session with the stars and executive producers of Dexter. Featured panelists include Michael C. Hall (series star/executive producer), Jennifer Carpenter (Deb), Desmond Harrington (Quinn), and executive producers John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Chip Johannessen (24), and Manny Coto (Star Trek: Enterprise). The new season premieres September 26, at 9:00 pm ET/PT only on Showtime."

The bit I can't wait for is the trailer! Hopefully it'll get posted online soon after so we can all whet our appetites!

More Dexter Season 5 casting news

Just when we thought there'd been more than enough new people cast in the next Season of Dexter!

[SPOILER ALERT - If you don't want to know ANYTHING about season 5 casting, don't read on!]

Still here?

It's just been announced by Showtime that the star of Robocop, Peter Weller, has been cast in the forthcoming season. He's set to play a troubled Miami Metro police officer who gets caught up in an internal affairs investigation. Apparently he's to appear in 8 of the season's 12 episodes so a pretty major role then.

What concerns me is the number of new people cast in quite major roles, does this mean they'll be trimming Showtime's wage bill by writing off one or two old characters (please LaGuerta just go now!)? Hopefully none of our favourite minor characters like Masuka will be in jeopardy of being axed. That said, it would make for some drama and we do like our Dexter drama, don't we?

Dissecting Dexter Episode 104

The latest Dissecting Dexter podcast is now online. Covering Season 1 Episode 4 "Let's Give the Boy a Hand", the podcast reviews the episode in detail. The line of the episode feature returns and there is some listener feedback including a bad review.

The new podcast is available on iTunes now if you force a refresh or you can download the podcast using this link.

Dissecting Dexter Episode 103

The new Dissecting Dexter podcast is now online, covering Season 1 Episode 3 "Popping Cherry". The title could refer to one of two things: The name of the latest Ice Truck Killer victim or the more significant fact that this episode features young Dexter's first human kill.

The episode guest stars Denise Crosby from Star Trek TNG as Nurse Death and Brad William Henke who played Bram on Lost.

As always the podcast delves into the storyline and characters with detailed commentary, although responding to feedback, I've really tried to trim the recap detail a bit but it's so hard! I've come in 5 minutes shorter than last time, so I'm heading the right way!

Next time we'll be looking at Episode 4 "Let's Give the Boy a Hand". Send in any comments, thoughts, theories, ideas, podcast feedback to dissectingdexter@gmail.com, where you could also send an mp3 voicemail if you like!

Grab the new podcast from iTunes or use this direct download link.

Dissecting Dexter Season 5 Briefing

In this latest podcast, we take a brief look at what we so far know about Dexter Season 5. If you've not seen season 4 yet, you will probably want to avoid and wait for the forthcoming podcast looking at Dexter Season 1 Episode 3 Popping Cherry, due in the next few days.

In the briefing, we'll be taking a look at casting news and on location reports (because season 5 has started shooting!) and speculating what it could mean for the season 5 storyline. I'm not a fan of major spoilers but if you consider this sort of information spoilery then maybe avoid but the news in the podcast does not contain anything major in the way of spoilers that you wouldn't see in a "coming soon" preview on tv.

I plan to do a season 5 preview podcast later in the summer, hopefully with a guest or two. Send in any feedback via the comment box here or email dissectingdexter@gmail.com

Dexter Season 5 production news

I've heard word that production on Dexter Season 5 is commencing this month. It's reported that they start around June 10th on location in Long Beach, CA, shooting at Dexter/Rita's house.

This is great news even though you might have guessed that they'd be filming soon, but it's exciting to think that material for season 5 is written and ready to shoot. I was excited like this last summer when they started shooting the final season of Lost!

Possible season 5 casting news

CASTING NEWS SPOILER ALERT!

If you don't want to know anything about Dexter Season 5, read no further!

...

...

...

...

A news story is floating around that Julia Stiles, who was in the recent Omen remake, is to play a major role in the new season.

EW's Michael Ausiello is reporting the story, saying that Stiles won't be playing a long term killer nemesis like John Lithgow did so brilliantly in season 4. Apparently Dexter won't be facing a season-long nemesis of that nature. He certainly has some more pressing personal problems to deal with. Speculation is that Stiles will play Rita's sister.

Also, Julie Benz is reported to be popping up early next season, maybe in a similar way to how Dexter's father Harry appears.
